I was very sad to hear the news about Simon. He featured prominently in my time at KES, teaching me English for 6 of my 7 years at the school. I also knew him as a fellow parishioner of the Oratory. I will remember Simon not only for his demonstrable passion for his subject (one class read-through of Macbeth, where Simon played the role of the Porter, long sticks in the memory), but also his care and dedication to helping his pupils learn and develop. He was unfailingly generous with his feedback, whether it was commending a piece of work or explaining how it could be improved. It is no understatement to say that his lessons, and his guidance, shaped my critical thinking and writing skills. It is a pleasure to have known him, and my thoughts are with his family at this most difficult time. Miles Drew (2006)
