Although I had not seen Simon for some years since I retired, his untimely death came as a considerable shock. We both joined the KES Staff at the same time, and although working in seperate departments, we often met each other socially and discussed our mutual pupils. I always found his counsel very wise and all his dealings were delivered with a delightfully old fashioned dignity - he never seemed to change in this - and thus he commanded considerable respect from both his charges and other members of staff. His strong religious faith was an inspiration to those that wished to follow that path, but he was never judgemental of those that did not. His contribution to the life of KES as a whole and to his pupils in particular was immense. He will be greatly missed. I extend my deepest sympathy to Carmel, Gregory and Phillipa
