Simon had the ability to make all his students engage with, and even share, his love for English - the subject he taught so effortlessly well. It would be the conversations outside of the classroom that immediately come to mind when I think of the many great memories I shared with him. Whether it be through his enthusiastic yet comical accents and impressions, or even our debates on the meaning behind the lyrics of songs that were clearly not on the syllabus, he was a teacher that truly brought the best out of all his students. Simon Stacey was everything a teacher should be; a kind, respectful, knowledgeable and passionate academic who had the ability to inspire all of his students through his immense wit and sporadic bursts of humour. It is true that you had to match his intelligence to fully comprehend his jokes at times, and this was an incredibly difficult thing to do. It was clear from the outset that he wanted the best for every single one of his students, and it was nothing short of a pleasure to share the Cartland Room with him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Sanam Chawla (2020)
